eCV Financing Paathshaala

A workshop series designed to build the knowledge and confidence required to finance electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) in India.

eCV Financing Paathshaala – CoEZET IIT Madras

Building Confidence in eCV Financing

Strengthening the financing ecosystem is essential to move electric commercial vehicles from pilots to sustainable scale.

Why this programme matters

India's EV financing market is projected to grow from $3.19 billion to $28.9 billion over the next five years, at a CAGR of 51.6%. While two- and three-wheelers have driven early growth, electric freight, e-buses, and e-trucks are emerging as the next growth engine, supported by improving unit economics and increasing corporate decarbonisation commitments.

Policy is reinforcing this transition. Schemes such as FAME I & II, the Grand Challenge, the National Electric Bus Programme (NEBP), and PM E-Bus Seva have collectively supported the deployment of more than 50,000 e-buses. More recently, PM e-DRIVE has earmarked ₹500 crore for e-truck incentives and ₹2,000 crore for charging infrastructure, while states such as Maharashtra have introduced dedicated e-freight incentives.

Addressing the financing gap

However, capital availability alone will not drive deployment. Financing remains constrained by uncertainty around battery health, residual value, and technology risk.

While these risks are expected to decline as fleets mature and market evidence strengthens, banks, NBFCs, DFIs, and financial advisors still require greater confidence and expertise to assess and finance these assets.

eCV Financing Paathshaala is designed to strengthen appraisal, risk assessment, and deal-structuring capabilities across the financing ecosystem, enabling financiers to evaluate and support bankable eCV projects with greater speed, confidence, and scale.

What the Paathshaala Aims to Build

The programme seeks to equip financiers and ecosystem stakeholders with the tools, insights, and market understanding needed to move beyond pilot deployments and support the scale-up of sustainable and bankable eCV projects.

01

Strengthen eCV Ecosystem Understanding

Understand market trends, battery technology, and real-world deployment models.

02

Build Financing Capability

Build capacity to assess and finance eCV projects through TCO analysis, financing structures, and de-risking mechanisms.

03

Enhance Financing Confidence

Enhance confidence in financing eCVs through policy awareness, incentives, and practical deployment learnings.
